There is no Galaxy Ring 2 yet, there is no announced launch date, and even the name is a placeholder Samsung has never confirmed. Samsung has confirmed the program at executive level three times over: SVP Dr. Hon Pak told Forbes on June 25, 2026 that “we are working on the next generation”; VP of Product & Marketing Annika Bizon told TechRadar a new Galaxy Ring “will definitely form part of our future portfolio of wearables”; and MX Division President TM Roh said after Unpacked that the ring is in “advanced development,” and that Samsung would rather ship it complete than hit a fixed release cycle. That kills the earlier “shelved entirely” speculation. It does not produce a product. The ring was absent from the July 22, 2026 Unpacked, and Android Authority reporting relayed on August 13, 2026 now treats the slip to early 2027 as a confirmed delay, most likely alongside the Galaxy S27 in January or February. As of today there are no Samsung-confirmed specs, no price, no ship date, no leaked renders, no CAD, no firmware build string, and no regulatory certification filing anywhere for this device, and it remains tangled in active patent litigation with Oura that could force a redesign before it ever launches. September 2, 2026 check: nothing moved this past week. A fresh sweep of news, general web, and X coverage surfaced no new Ring 2 reporting in the last seven days. The picture is unchanged: confirmed to exist, no date, no price, no spec sheet, no certification filing. Two things are worth stating plainly because they get lost in the rumor churn. First, “Galaxy Ring 2” is a placeholder. Samsung has never confirmed that name, or any name. Second, the useful question about this product has shifted from “what will it ship with” to “can Samsung ship it at all before the ITC rules”. The Oura import-ban case is the gating item on the calendar now, ahead of component readiness.

The Ring 2 is confirmed to exist and confirmed to be late. Three Samsung executives are now on record. Dr. Hon Pak (SVP, Head of Digital Health) told Forbes on June 25, 2026, “we are working on the next generation,” the first on-record acknowledgment. What has not changed: no confirmed launch date, no price, no spec sheet. The differentiation story is software, and now also hardware roles. Samsung says it will separate the next ring through software and AI-driven services rather than chasing new sensors. At VivaTech Paris, Pak previewed the Samsung Health layer the Ring 2 will feed into: Vitals (a week-long personal baseline for sleep, heart rate, respiratory rate, and SpO2), a Heart Health Score, and personalized AI health coaching. Separately, at CES 2026 Samsung previewed AI-driven early cognitive-decline (dementia risk) detection coming to both the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring via future software updates, reading movement speed, activity, sleep, and interaction patterns; this is a platform-level software direction, not a Ring 2 hardware confirmation.

New since our last update: the ring is being repositioned as an XR gesture controller. An Android Authority teardown of the Galaxy Ring Manager app (November 11, 2025) surfaced a “ring gesture for glasses” string, pointing at the ring acting as a gesture input device for Samsung’s Android XR glasses built with Google, Warby Parker, and Gentle Monster. A second teardown, this time of the Galaxy Glasses app, surfaced related gesture-control code on June 30, 2026. Wareable floats this shipping “possibly as part of a Samsung Galaxy Ring 2.” This is leak-level, not announced, but two independent teardowns plus the patent filings below all point the same way: phone, tablet, laptop, XR headset, glasses, with the ring as the controller. That is a different product thesis than “Oura with Samsung’s logo on it.”

Hardware details remain leaks, so treat accordingly. SamMobile’s roundup (updated August 2026) points to a design very similar to Gen 1: Grade 5 titanium, a concave scratch-resistant profile, IP68 and 100m water resistance, and possibly a thinner, lighter build, with the same core sensors (optical HR, accelerometer, gyroscope, skin-temperature), roughly 8MB of storage, Zephyr RTOS, and improved accuracy as the main upgrade. No new sensor class has leaked. The headline rumored functional change is NFC plus Bluetooth 6.0 (up from 5.4), enabling Samsung Wallet mobile payments, which would be a first for the ring line and a genuine differentiator against Oura. A sourcing caution on that spec list. The August 2026 cluster carrying the Bluetooth 6.0, 8MB storage, and Zephyr RTOS details circulates mostly through aggregator sites that cite each other rather than any named leaker or firmware dump. That is more substance than we had, but the same reporting carries its own warning, because solid-state costs materially more than lithium-ion, which squeezes the rumored $399 price at a moment when Galaxy Ring demand has reportedly softened. Korean leaker Lanzuk claims only that battery life will beat the original’s 7-day rating, a narrower statement that fits the week-plus cluster and does not support the 9 to 10 day number. The iPhone/iOS pairing tease has weakened, not firmed up. That claim reaches us only through secondhand write-ups of a Forbes interview, several of which are AI-generated aggregator posts recycling each other, and we could not verify the primary reporting. Pak’s confirmation that a next generation exists is real; the iOS extension of it is unverified and should not be treated as a reported feature. Glucose tracking is not expected this generation, and ET News now rules it out explicitly, which retires the single most-hyped speculative feature from the 2024 to 2025 rumor cycle. On price, leak roundups expect it to hold near the original’s $399.99 (rumored colors: Titanium Black, Gold, Silver); a single low-confidence Indian retailer listing floats an expected ~₹40,999 (about $490), but treat any figure as unofficial.

Also new: three patent filings that sketch direction without committing to anything. Published August 13, 2026, one filing describes a battery-level indicator with no screen, repurposing the PPG sensor LED to blink patterns that vary by remaining charge when the ring is taken off or put on. Published August 6, 2026, US 2026/0227865 A1 describes a glasses-to-ring gesture system in which the glasses camera visually predicts an incoming gesture and wakes the ring out of a sensors-off low-power state to read it, solving the battery cost of always-on gesture sensing. A third describes reverse wireless charging from a nearby Galaxy phone while the ring is still worn, using BLE distance estimation with thermal and battery-level safety checks, which would cut dependence on the charging case. Patents describe what a company is exploring, not what it will ship. None of these are confirmed Ring 2 features.

One confirmed milestone landed this cycle, but for the current ring, not the Ring 2. Samsung’s FDA 510(k) clearance for a sleep-apnea feature came through in July 2026 and was announced at the July 22 Unpacked by Head of Digital Health Sharanya Desai, who called it the “first and only FDA-cleared, over-the-counter ring device for sleep apnea risk” detection. It ships to the original Galaxy Ring this fall (2026) as a software update with no new hardware, which is Samsung’s stated hedge for keeping 2024 hardware relevant into 2027. That first-gen ring remains on sale, now commonly found between $379.99 and $399. Expect the apnea feature to become a headline whenever the Ring 2 actually arrives.

The legal overhang is the most underreported risk here. Oura’s November 2025 ITC Section 337 complaint seeks a US import ban on the Galaxy Ring and names Reebok, Zepp Health (Amazfit), and Nexxbase as co-respondents. Samsung countersued on December 1, 2025 with a 12-patent suit in the Eastern District of Texas, and an earlier Samsung suit against Oura was dismissed in March 2025 and is on appeal, so the fight cuts both ways. In July 2026, Samsung failed to invalidate one key Oura patent, though it succeeded against several others. The precedent is not friendly to defendants: the ITC has already ruled against Ultrahuman and RingConn, issuing cease-and-desist orders, and Ultrahuman had to redesign the Ring Air to re-enter the US market. But a forced pre-launch redesign is at least as plausible an explanation for the 2027 slip as Roh’s “completeness” framing, and the exposure runs to the ring Samsung is selling right now, not just the one it has not announced.

Meanwhile the field is not waiting. Oura launched the Ring 5 (ship date reported variously as May or June 2026, currently reported around $399 plus a $5.99/month subscription), billed as the world’s smallest smart ring and called the most refined ring on the market by reviewers, with live activity tracking, GLP-1 insights, proactive blood pressure, and nighttime breathing, though it carries no FDA clearance for sleep apnea. Corporate Oura filed confidentially for an IPO on May 21, 2026 at roughly an $11B valuation and, as of late August 2026, is reportedly targeting a September listing raising up to $3B at more than $16B, on roughly $2B of expected 2026 revenue and 5.5M+ rings shipped, while also facing a San Francisco class action over its sleep-tracking accuracy claims. A newly public Oura with that much litigation momentum has every reason to keep pressing the ITC case straight through Samsung’s launch window. Garmin appears to be entering: a ring reportedly called Cirqa surfaced in an Indonesian certification database on August 13, 2026 and was pulled the next day, and a one-time-purchase Garmin ring would hit Oura’s subscription model directly. RingConn Gen 3 shipped in May 2026 with blood pressure and vascular health tracking and no subscription, and is selling under an active ITC cease-and-desist from the Oura dispute. Circular’s Ring 3 Pro and Ring 3 Slim already ship NFC mobile payments, haptic alerts, and no subscription for core health features or the AI coach, which means a competitor has beaten Samsung to the exact feature the Ring 2 is rumored to lead with. Ultrahuman’s Ring Pro claims 15-day battery with real-time AI coaching; Whoop hit a $10.1B valuation in March 2026. Samsung is ceding the entire 2026 holiday quarter, and a 2027 Ring 2 will arrive into a materially tougher field than 2024’s, with each of its rumored differentiators already matched by somebody. The bundle is the pitch, not any single item in it.

One last thing worth naming plainly. For a device supposedly four to five months from reveal, there are no hands-on reports, no prototype photos, no CAD renders, no regulatory certification filing, and no Ring 2 firmware build string anywhere. Either the early-2027 window is softer than the reporting suggests, or Samsung has locked this program down harder than it locks down phones. Until certification filings appear, treat every spec above as rumor and every date as an estimate.
