Whoop Meridian Band ($149) turns fitness tracking into luxury jewelry, targeting affluent users who’d otherwise skip biometrics over aesthetics. If it actually converts fashion-first hold-outs instead of just reshuffling Whoop’s base, it’s a smart market-expansion play.
Marty’s Take:
Whoop is doing what Apple already proved works: sell the fashion accessory, keep the recurring subscription hidden underneath. At $149 the Meridian Band costs almost as much as the tracker itself, and it only works with Whoop 5.0/MG hardware you already have to own. It’s margin expansion on existing subscribers dressed up as market expansion, not a real play for the fashion-first holdouts who’d need a cheaper entry point than a standalone fitness tracker already offers.
